Vanessa Chan is the Founder & Chief Designer at re.design. She is the mother of two girls, aged 7 and 10 who, like her, are creative tinkerers. She has been designing solutions to simple & complex problems for over 20 years as an engineer, a consultant, and a Mom.
Vanessa has always been innovating. Before taking the entrepreneurship plunge and founding re.design, she was a partner at McKinsey & Company where she co-led their innovation practice.
An inveterate networker, Vanessa supports women professionals as co-president of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Ellevate Network. She keeps close to her innovative roots as a member of UTC's Innovation Business Development Advisory Council and even helps grade school children with their business ideas in her roles on their Venture Incubator advisory board for Springside Chestnut Hill Academy and on their Board of Trustees.
Vanessa has a Ph.D. from MIT in Materials Science & Engineering and a B.S.E. from University of Pennsylvania. She is married to Mark van der Helm.
